The Double Bass Workshop has been serving the bass playing community of Madison, WI and the upper Midwest since 1996. The Double Bass Workshop specializes in the setup, repair, restoration and sales of the double bass and double bass accessories. We work with all types of players from beginners to professionals in all genres and styles. The Double Bass Workshop prides itself on selling only quality instruments and merchandise. Henry Boehm is the founder and head luthier of the Double Bass Workshop. Henry has been a professional bassist for over 15 years. He was classically trained and has played in numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles including Aspen, Congress of Strings and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago-to name a few. His main focus is now jazz, Latin jazz and other genres of popular music. He has done much freelancing with many local, regional and a few nationally known jazz musicians, has toured the US and Europe, has several recordings with his own groups and has played as a hired hand on many other folks’ recordings. Playing is his other job and he stays very busy as a gigging bassist. His life long fascination and curiosity with wood and how things work led him to pursue a career as a luthier. Henry understands the bass inside and out and his years of playing experience help him better understand the individual needs of each player. Being an active, professional player keeps him current with today’s equipment and general trends in bass playing.

Vince Jesse is our other main luthier. Vince has been at the shop now for a year and a half. Vince is a professional jazz guitarist, guitar luthier, a trained machinist and a bassist too. Vince brings his years of guitar luthery experience to the shop and those skills combined with his machine shop sensibilities is creating a formidable bass luthier.
